AI-S Lens with TC-20E III Teleconverter?

Hi all! I've done a little poking around and didn't find my answer so I thought I'd ask. Will an AI-S lens work with a modern TC-20E III teleconverter?

Specifically, I'm tossing around the idea of getting an old Nikon 800mm or 400mm AI-S lens and wondered if my new teleconverter would work with it on my D600. I know the AI-S will work on the D600 in manual mode and was hoping it'd do the same with the teleconverter - all manual.

Of course I'd prefer to spend $10k on a schnazzy new AF-S lens, but I'm an "enthusiast" and can't justify it when I'm not making a dime, so am looking for creative ways to bring things closer on my wildlife adventures and thinking if I get good glass I can put the sweat equity in by handling all the manual work.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks, 480! I had checked that out and it doesn't specifically list any AI-S lenses so - I haven't found anything that talks about AI-S lenses and new TC's. Plenty of stuff about the AI-S lenses and the older TC's (TC-300, etc) so I was just sort of wondering what would happen with the TC-20E III. Because I'm expecting to use the AI-S lens completely manual it wouldn't bother me to add the TC I already own and keep going full manual.

Thanks for the help, though!

I doubt you'd even be able to mount a current TC on an AI lens. Nikon puts a little tab on the lens end of the TC mounting flange to 'force' you to use only certain Nikkor lenses.
