Can't speak for the Nikors but I can comment on the focal lengths. I have the Tamron 60 and thought I would replace it with the Sigma 105. Love the 105 and the extra distance it brings but I couldn't bring myself to sell the 60. In certain situations, the 105 is too much. Shooting down on a tabletop, or top of a bush, I'd need a step stool with the 105 to get a few extra inches away. Glad I got the 105 though, no regrets.
I have a 60 2.8D… The difference, other than the obvious focal length is the minimum distance. The 60mm is about 9” whereas the 105mm is 12”… If I added the 105mm it would be most likely for other purposes and the macro functionality would just be an added benefit…As was already mentioned, depending on your Macro application the added focal length may or may NOT be a benefit…
An extension tube (or multiple ones combined) with the 105mm should shorten your working distance if that is a concern. It would also make the subject appear larger in the viewfinder.
I only have the 105mm so can't offer any input about comparisons.
