AF-C Flash Question

So, my D5000 can take multiple shots in AF-C with the pop up flash up while holding down the shutter. It just won't fire the flash on every single shutter but will fire the flash when it has some juice again. I like that because it helps with camera shake.

When I try to do the same with my D800, I can only take one photo with my finger on the shutter while in AF-C with the pop up flash up. Any suggestions for a setting that I am not using that I should be do this?

Thanks!

You need an external (hot shoe) flash. The internal flash limits the shutter to only take one picture in multiple shutter operations (continuous, or selftimer, etc). See Troubleshooting, D800 manual, page 460.

The D5000 User Manual (page 66) also says "Continuous release mode cannot be used with the internal flash".

Maybe I was doing it with a hot shoe before with the D5000. I could have sworn I did it with the pop up but maybe not. Thanks for the manual references! I will play with it this weekend to see if my external will work in continuous. Thanks again!
