The 7100 has a few features that I don't need while the D5300 has the moveable rear screen which I use a lot. You can only do video using the rear screen so being able to move the screen is a help. I use the built-in GPS and the built-in WiFi so have the 2 battery grip as the camera will use up one battery fairly quickly. My hands are large also so the grip helps that a lot.Money was tight and I wanted the 18-140 lens so went with the 5300 at the time.
