I am currently running PS CS2 on my computer (no lightroom).

Having been made aware of the current offer from Adobe re: PS/LR for less than a tenner a month, I am very tempted.

However, being a relatively inexperienced photo editer, I am not sure whether It's the thing to go for.

I have the option of reverting back to CS2 if they whack the price up and/or I don't want it after a year - but I'm just wondering if, given my situation, it's worth the £100 odd to try it out?

Would like to hear from people with experience of the latest LR/PS packages to hear their thoughts - especially those who have previously used CS2 so can compare.

Thanks :)

You have 30 days to cancel if you don't like it. Also if you have a legal version of CS2 it will remain on your computer so you can go back to it any time.

There is a BIG difference in CS2 and CS6 or Photoshop CC. Well worth the bucks. You will have a little bit of a learning curve but that is good for you.

Just to add to Don's comments.

I have no real experience with Photoshop or Lightroom.

I bought my dlsr in June of 2013 and acquired Lightroom 5 a little over a month ago, and had an old copy of Photoshop that I was going to try and get by with. I also installed the trial version of CC Photoshop for comparison purposes.

Browsing for techniques (bracketing for instance), watching Youtube and Adobe's free tutorials, it was interesting to see how far apart the older Photoshop and the new versions are. The user interfaces of the older Photoshop vs Lightroom 5 are different. Maybe it wouldn't phase a Photoshop "old hat" but from a learner's perspective and gaining maximum capability it made a difference to me.

It came down to $120 a year and decided not to fight it. I had just canceled my Netflix DVD subscription so I applied that money to this valuable tool. App updates are automatic.

FWIW

BTW - The Adobe phone sales guy said the deal ended on the 8th, but the offer is still up on the Adobe site, and it let me buy in yesterday.

I get the impression that this is going to be the new price point for photographers. But that is just me guessing.

From what I gather adobe aren't saying what price it will be after 12months.

I did have a chat to the online rep though who said "the offer expires on 31 December but online offers are subject to change without notice" before going for the hard sell.

My guess is that they are probably having far more success with this offer than they were before so are likely to keep prices the same or similar come the end of the year.

Here's the rather vague language of the Terms and Conditions:

Renewal
After the first 12 months, we will automatically renew your contract based on the current price of the offering

Does current mean the now current price of the offering or the current price a year from now?

Also does anyone have any experience of the online portfolio they bundle with it?

The Behance Pro site? I did sign up for it and canceled two days later because the Behance Pro site is not easy to use in my opinion but the main reason is they do not offer right click protect and are very unapologetic about it and say on their site that they believe in sharing. Before anyone chimes in that you can still steal photos no matter what I know that but the quality is greatly reduced and it keeps honest people honest. They also limit file size and make it harder to sell than my present online site Zenfolio. If you want it for Photoshop and Lightroom go for it. IT is a great deal. If you , like me, wanted it to include the online site, then no. The cost was the same I am paying for Zenfolio so it would have been a no-brainer if the Behance Pro Site were any good.

Current When they renew it in one year. It could be the same or it could be $59.95 a month. I would bet though they will leave it where it is or only a modest increase. If they raised it to much people would leave in droves. Again, just my opinion.

Here is an Adobe offer that came in my email. NOW I know many of you may not work for a company BUT like I said has your Cable Bill ever went down! They'll lock in a two year price BUT what happens after.
I do have PS CS5 but am looking at viable alternatives i.e. OnOne 8 which does layers, Acorn, and others.
