Adobe Creative Cloud

Who's going all in with Adobe CC?? I am lucky since I am a student, I get the full deal for $19.99
The idea of getting LR5, PS CS6, etc for $20 a month is a deal that I can't pass up.

Do they go up on the price once you are not a student? That would be my concern. That I I want to OWN my software from now on. I just bought CS6 since it will probably be the last buy-able version they will have.

As it is now, there's zero chance I'll subscribe. Once you decide to stop subscribing you lose the ability to open any files that you created and saved with adjustments and tools made in the newer versions. I.E...you could go back to CS6 but it won't support the features of the newer versions you used in CC. Once you are in your are in for life unless you don't care about saving files with adjustments and plan to only create jpegs or Tiffs.

I will be a student for at least another 5 years, so I am not worried. For the cost of LR and PS CS6 it would pay for a few years of cloud.

CS6 and ViewNX2 are all I need. To heck with Adobe's new subscription services.

Having to subscribe to a monthy service is a huge disappointment...who wants to continually pay for software useage. Guess I will stick with Adobe7 unless cs6 goes on sale. I'd rather own my software and pay for it just once.

Strategically the cloud offers the best of all worlds for Adobe, Microsoft and others, the primary benefit being consistent revenue stream versus periodic new release peaks/valleys with "captured" market running a close second.

That doesn't say much for the individual but we're a small portion of Adobe's market. What cloud providers are depending on to eventually attract that portion of their market is human resistance to dreaded change, such as a learning curve for open source or competitor software.

I have the lot. I use quite a few of the apps like LR, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, acrobat pro, premiere pro an encore. My wife also uses the first two. Therefore I feel it's not too bad for me and I just got all the recent upgrades as part of it.

Only time will tell if I come to regret this new way of the world.

I just have a real problem with the whole software subscription model. Not only does one have to continually pay a monthly fee, i wouldn't be surprised if they continually update it so that you have to update your hardware more often that you normally would have just to be able to continue using your subscription software. That becomes a cost factor that could affect a lot of individual, small business, and educational institution users. Obviously, the individual and small organization users are not important revenue sources for Adobe.

I don't think you have to apply updates as they arrive, you are just entitled if you want to. In fairness adobe hasn't forced my hardware to be upgraded over recent years, the large D800 raw files do that.
