A somewhat philosophical question..............

I almost feel like PS and LR make the photographer have to work that much harder at his/her craft as opposed making them lazier.

What about the digital camera itself making one lazier? I know it is a whole lot easier for me to go around with a digital camera and shoot at things than it is to do the same with a film camera.

I don't see it as easier or harder, just different. When I'm out looking for a shot, I'm looking at the light, the composition and what I can do with it. Same with film. But I don't have to spend half of a lifetime in the complete dark to see the results...

I love digital.

Another aspect of this technology is how you can take a single great photo and end up spending all day working up different versions of it. Throw Nik into the mix and you'll end up with 15-20 versions on your hand. And like Eyelevel was pointing out, we end up working far more taking digital than we ever did with film. At least with color film, after the shutter is released you've done. Whereas with digital you've not even close to being done after the shutter releases.

I am lazy don't like post processing - so I set my camera's up to minimize PP.

I have a friend just like you. And he does great pictures as well… It's all a question of choices. I do enjoy post processing so I do it. I worked in a lab for a while and I'm sitting down in front of my iMac, laughing at all I can do that could have taken me days of darkroom work 40 years ago...

My background is a degree in Electronics in the 70s and a degree in computers in the 2000s. So I would consider myself a techie. Photography was a hobby that turned into a career for over 15 years. I managed and owned photo labs / camera stores. So to me photography has always been a mix of electronics/tech and art.

Post Processing and PhotoShop is just an extension of the art/craft. I enjoy it. I paid a good money for a good camera so I need to let it do as much as it can to help me.

I shoot for me.
