Hello everybody;)I own the Nikon D5100, and I have read at the manual of this camera, under the subject "Connections", this phrase:"Be sure the camera is off when connecting or disconnecting interface cables".unfortunately, I had transfered some photos to my PC, and by mistake, I have disconnected the camera from the USB cable, before I turn it off. What can be the consequences?:ambivalence::(

Nothing to the camera or card. But if it was in the middle of transferring files, your images may have gotten corrupted.

You can actually damage the connected between the two. Next time you try to connect them, it may not pick up the camera. You can also damage the usb port on your computer and make it not work with anything else. It truly depends on how you pulled it out. This does not always happen but it can happen. So overall, if you have any damage it will be to your usb port or to the connection between two devices if you are using the same wire.

Just to add, if it is working now, do not worry. You did not break anything.

Many people make this mistake and nothing happens. Problems would be more likely to happen if you did it during read or erase of the card. Like people said, you could lose images and mess up USB. If you did cause a USB port problem, it is software on your computer and can be easily fixed. If you messed up the SD card by pulling the cable during an erase command from the computer, a format in camera should fix it. So other than losing images, the software problems can be fixed.

I do it more times than none. I import and pull the cord before I shut the camera off. No issues yet. I need to get into a better habit of checking first because i'm sure its not doing it any good.
