A Man's E-Cig EXPLODED in His Pants

I'm somewhat of a flashlight enthusiast ('torch' for the guys across the ocean). I cross paths with the e-cig guys because we use the same batteries. Those Li-ion batteries pack a lot of power in a small space. They are pretty much the same cells that would be inside our camera or laptop power paks, but with less safety features. The raw cells get plastic wrapped so they can be used in flashlights and e-cigs. Some have a small protection circuit (minimal) at one end, some don't. The non-protected cells are more dangerous, you can easily over charge or over drain and set yourself up for a future fire. The little protection circuit can fail too. The flashlight guys are usually more of the engineer type and keep a volt meter handy to gauge the health of the cell on a regular basis as well as physically inspect it. The cells can short out pretty easily if the plastic wrapper gets damaged. The word on the flashlight forums is he had a loose cell in his pocket with keys or coins.

another e-cig erruption

Here is another unfortunate story, ouch:
e-cig explosion lit face on fire, busted 2 teeth

Be careful and read up on Li-ion battery safety if you use these cells!

Lucky for him it was pointed outward! Nothing worse than a mini flame-thrower pointed at the package!!!

To be fair Li-ion batteries tend to have warnings about carrying them 'raw' in your pocket with other metal objects.
If the battery is actually attached to an e-cig chances are your keys won't be shorting it out in any way.

This was in the e-sig ready to use. I did a little reading about these vapes and it seems there are some very cheap ones on the market that really don't care about safety that much. Knock-offs
