A good "vacation" lens

I have hauled my 18-200 around in a lot of places, like badbadman said, wide enough for landscape and great for zooming in for candids and some bldg/street shots. Not too good for low light, maybe carry a 50 mm 1.8 or 1.4 for that.

I'd have to agree with this assessment. For a "walkaround" lens in acceptable light (at 400 ISO max.), I can't think of anything that beats the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR (or II) lens. If presented only one lens to have on my camera, that would be it. My AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 IF-ED G lens would be wonderful, but I'd always have to stay at least 15 feet away to get anything...if I wanted a fixed focal to back up the 18-200 (for low light), I'd bring along my 35mm f/1.8 lens.
