Pretty cool, but... there's no way I'm rubbing petroleum jelly all over my lenses!

I had almost worked out the ND filter myself, except for the mounting challenge, and that was answered here.

He used a UV filter, which can be had for pretty cheap. I had always heard about doing this but I felt the same way till I saw this and realized he was using a filter. I like the effect and might try it as I have a few UV's that are not being used.

Ahh, that makes more sense... might just try that, then. Thanks for pointing that out!

Interesting ideas. I especially liked the last one where he cut out a triangle and mounted the posterboard (or whatever was used) to the lens. Nice idea to create different shaped bokeh lights.

@Pretzel, back in the late 90's a young woman who worked in a camera shop told me she used clear nail polish on a filter. She shot a lot of weddings and used the filter regularly. She had me take in a filter and a bottle of nail polish, and she made one for me. Although it is permanent, it isn't nearly as messy as vaseline once it is dry. :)
