The noise goes away once I switch back to AF mode. I haven't tried it with AF and VR off to see if the noise comes back. I switched the lens with our 18-55mm VR2 lens and there's no noise coming for that one. Is this something inherent in the 55-200? is there a setting on the camera that's causing it? The refurbed lens comes with a 90 day warranty so I can get it repaired or replaced if it turns out the noise isn't normal. Any insight and help would be appreciated, thanks.
Hi everyone, hopefully this is the right forum to post in. We have a D3100 and recently bought a factory refurbished 55-200mm VR lens to replace another lens that broke. We've been able to capture great pictures with it and works really well especially in zoom mode. However, I just discovered that in manual focus mode and with VR turned on, when I press the shutter button halfway, the lens makes a high pitched noise sounding as if something is stuck.
