It's really not so much to do with the 50mm dx or 50mm fx, it's all about which camera you put the lens on. Placing it on a crop camera (1.5) is what changes the fov.

Fx lenses can be used on both full frame and crop cameras, so if you think about going full frame sometime, you can build up your arsenal of fx lenses before changing camera.

A dx lens cannot show as much fov on a ff camera, as a fx lens are able to - because it's made for dx format.


I only tried an dx lens on my ff once, it showed me a darker area where my sensor would have recorded with a fx lens, and then brighter area in the middle - which was recorded on my image. Smaller fov, due to the 1.5 crop.
