3 days I was at an event - it was a school performance called Parents' Observation Day. I took about 900 photos. The conditions indoor - changing light and not that bright. The stage was permanent in different colored light which changed rapidly. The performer moved around fast and not so fast too. I used this event for further events which are coming for sure such as traditional evening events. So I get experience what kind of lens and settings I can handle. The first day I used the nikon 50mm 1.8g and the nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 vr. I shot RAW +JPEG Fine. The Result was good and I PP the RAW Files - The JPEG were only to show my wife. Still I didn't touch them. The second Day I used the 50mm 1.8g and the micro nikkor af-s dx 40mm f/2.8 g. I shot only RAW. The Result was nearly perfect to me. Today I used the nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 vr. and I shot only JPEG ( I had lots of photos from my daughter's performance) The result is just O.K. Not that bad but also not that great. PP is very tricky. My opinion if I am going to buy a new lens it will be a lens with fixed aperture such as 1.4, 1.8 or 2.8 and for me without doubt I'll continue shooting RAW. My wife, she's nothing to do with photography got it and told me that she now can see the difference and she won't bother me again to show at once the result on the PC. For her is enough to take a quick look at the photos using IrfanView. After PP she will get it on her hard-disk.
