19 most expensive photographs ever sold

Some of these only got that much because of who shot them. Some are absolutely wonderful. Some of those would have been interesting to see here on the forum critique section. They would have been torn to shreds.
I won't list which ones I think should be on what list.

I feel the same way when I see some of the things they call "modern art". It just doesn't seem to make sense to me. But then again, I wonder if I'm just not understanding it. Consider Van Gogh, no one liked his art when he was making it. They thought it was trash and he never sold a single piece outside what his brother bought. Great artist seldom make art for their peers, they're making it for future generations who will understand it. If an artist is popular with his peers chances are they'll not be remembered a generation later.

I do wonder if a lot of modern art is so successful is because no one wants to admit that they don't understand it, I have to say that I think I have taken some better photos on my phone. Maybe I am just uncultured LOL

#1 on that list is a great example of a totally misunderstood genius of a photograph...look it up and read how it was made what it is a photo of and then read a little about the photographer...fascinating stuff...

Now you see this is why art is so personal I think photo No 1 is dull and very very boring, as to reading up as to why it is so interesting (and I think I remember reading about it when it appeared all over the net a couple of years ago) means that it isn't. This is my own personal view and I am not having a go at anyone who likes it. But in all honesty I would rate most of the images on this site better than most of the ones on that list. :)
