I would go for the 18-140 as well. If you are in the US, 18-140 refurbs are going for ~$240 right now just to give you a reference. I bought one on impulse a couple of weeks ago. I got it to replace my 18-105 and I'm very glad I got it. It is heavier than the 18-55 or 18-105. It does have a metal mount where the -55 and -105 have plastic mounts. The 18-55 is a decent lens, but in my opinion it leads you down a path to an awkward kit. I originally got the 18-55, then I ended up with the 55-200. Then I was faced with carrying two lenses when I really didn't want/need to. Having that lens change point at 55 was a pain to me. The 18-140 makes a better 'everything' lens. Then down the road, you might consider a 35mm and a 70-300 and the 18-140 will still be your main lens.
