Pat, I just got my 18-105 today. I think you will be very pleased with yours. My thinking was like yours, that it would be an everyday replacement for my 18-55. In my case I also have an 18-70 (no VR) in the mix. I only had time to take a few shots, but it's certainly sharp enough for my everyday needs with significant reach over the 18-55. It has a little more reach than my 18-70 and having the VR is great. I was able to take some hand held available light shots that would not have been possible with the 18-70 on the same settings and it looks like I did not lose anything over the 18-55, I just gained more reach. I probably will not make myself crazy comparing them. I'm just planning to have fun with it. So based on 15 minutes of play time, I am very happy and looking forward to getting out to shoot. I never bought a refurb lens before. It is in absolutely new condition. No signs of use anywhere, including the plastic mount. I totally forgot about the Adorama extra warranty and I got it from B&H, so only 90 day warranty. I don't think it will be an issue. Enjoy your new lens!
