1.8 lens

I am considering pairing my d7100 with a full frame f1.8 lens. With the lens wide open will the cameras show f1.8 or f2.8?

It only changes the length of the lens. No matter if the lens is DX or FX there is a 1.5x factor to add to the lens on your D7100. A 50mm is equal to 75mm This the the same for every lens you put on your camera

An f1.8 lens will always be a f1.8 lens, no matter what the size of the sensor. What changes is the FOV (Field of view), so you will get a FOV of a 75mm with a 50mm lens on DX (compared to FX). Similarly you will get a FOV of around 35mm on a 645 sensor, but in all the cases the F1.8 remains same.

I have just purchased the 35mm ed lens and use it with the d7100. I am getting some nice photos from it, only had it two days though.

I had the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 also. It's a 'good' lens. I actually discovered that my 18-105mm Nikon was better and a lot more versatile. So, I eventually sold the 35mm, and lightened up my bag... I bought the 35mm f/1.8 because I had read some glowing reviews about it. In my experience, it was a good lens, but not great...

It should give you a nifty fifty field of view, which is a great focal length in my opinion! Soon I may try my 35mm out on my DX Nikon I am getting! :)

Everyone talks about the "Nifty Fifty" but you need to realize that is in reference to Full Frame cameras and comes from the old Film days of 35mm film cameras. When you move to the DX cameras then the 35mm lenses are closer to the look and feel of the 50mm. The 50mm on DX is closer to a portrait lens (75mm)

I have the 35mm 1.8G, 50mm 1.8G and the 85mm 1.8G all Nikon Primes. I shoot with a D7100 and love the primes. They are fast, good in low light, and very sharp. I had to do a fine tune adjustment for the 35mm due to a very minor forward focus issue. This is not due to a bad lens. The 1.8 lenses work very well on the D7100 cropped sensor camera.
