I just got a water proof coolpix at 16 Meg sensor,  so,,  the sensor is tiny, in that, it is essentially 1/20th the area of a FX sensor (43 sq mm vs 864 sq mm),  so,, let's say for chuckles that Nikon made a sensor with the same size transistor as the small coolpix,, then it would be essentiall 20x16 Meg  or  320 MegPixel FX sensor, and maybe they could have a mode for combining transistor for low light,, lower pixel but more sensitive?  then think about the current natural print size of the D800 (around 20x30),,  could make billboard prints at the 320 pixel range with no lose of detail. course way overkill... I don't have the wall space now for my prints.</blockquote>
