Hello Nikonites.
What do you think? Depending on my budget, I can buy z50 or D7500.
In favor of the D7500: I can use the 6 lenses I have.
In favor of the Z50: The live view is great. I can only use 2 of my lenses.
My area of work is cultural events, where light is not abundant.

Hola Nikonites.

What lenses do you have, and what kind of photography are you interested in?
My work in parties, weddings and cultural events.
Parties: very low light
Ballet and opera: very high contrasts
Symphonic and choral concerts, low light
The lenses that I have not been able to use for 10 years, because I have D5500 and D5300 cameras (without focus motor) are:
Sigma zoom 70-300
Sigma 30 mm 1:1.4
Before I had the Nikon D80

Welcome Aron!

Its a personal call on the camera choice, I have a Z50 with the FTZ II (I only have F mount lenses at the moment) I also have a D7200. I seem to use both somewhat similarly. The Z is a very "different" approach EVF is something to get used to, the auto live view can be handy. Its small however handles fairly well IMO. If you like the Z maybe consider the two lens kit no FTZ. You can put the old gear on the "block".

The D7500 will not need the FTZ so money saved, you can use all your familiar lenses. Similar performance (from specs not experience). The downs are - no new firmware is likely - less focus points overall.

Personal decision for the most part - IMO whatever keeps you shooting more! Budgets are real, do what feels best

Thank you Nikonbill for your valuable time!

I saw on YouTube that a wedding photographer never photographs with his Nikon Z50 in low light places, like a party.
He says that, not having a focusing light like the one on the 7500, he has many problems.
In your own experience, does the Z50 focus well in places with very low lighting?

In addition, he is afraid of laser rays, so abundant at a party or a recital, which, according to him, have burned out the camera sensors of people he knows.

Auto focus in low light is more challenging with the Z50 than my D7200 (similar focus type, separate focus screen as the 7500) it "hunts" more than the 7200. This would be more of an issue in a low lit club. In my personal experience low light is dependent on contrasting light with the Z50 sensor based focus. If you are interested in manual focus in low light (have the time to take the shot) the Z50 offers focus peaking, I will use this when things get really "dim".

In situations of "normal" light like an indoor birthday party I find the Z50 does a nice job getting and maintaining focus. When things are dim like one lamp lighting a room my D7200 is the better setup. I will post a sample with my D7200, in this shot it was morning with low window light as it was hazy out. The focus was easy for the camera, the original was brightened and de-noised with software (I use Affinity and sometimes Topaz AI).

Auto focus auto area was used, and this was hand held - I'm not sure I would have tried this shot with the Z50, on this trip I had my 200/500 lens on the Z50 for outdoor shooting.

Hope this is helpful to you
