D7200 vs D850 (in DX crop) Bean Test

Thanks for the update. I also have the D850 and D7200. From what I've seen, if I have to crop to at least DX size, I'm still better off using a DX camera like the D7200. A full-sized image from the D7200 is 24 mp, while a D850 DX mode shot is 19.4 MP. While not a huge difference 24 > 19.4...

    300mm f/4 PF VR issue?

Anyone use this lens with a D850? I read about the VR issues where images can be blurred from around 1/80 to 1/160. Some have said it's been fixed, but others say they still have problems. Not sure if it's worth the risk to try?

getting Nikon colors in Capture One?

Due to the recent Adobe announcements, I will probably not be using LR much longer. C1 seems like a great choice, but I don't like the default rendering. I'm used to Nikon's neutral picture control, and the C1 image looks too contrasty and overprocessed on import. Also, the colors don't seem...

    DPR Review D850

Whatever works for you  I actually had the D850 on preorder, but decided to cancel due to several factors. I thought about how much I crop, and it happens a lot on DX, so there's no point in switching. Cropping decreases quality, so I'd rather have a full-frame DX shot than a...

    DPR Review D850

Not sure what everyone here is typically shooting, but I enjoy wildlife and nature subjects. For large animals like deer, I could maybe get by with just FX, but try filling the FX frame with a bird. Try getting closer to a lion or a bear. I've never heard any wildlife shooter complain about...

    D750 or D500

If you had both cameras, which one would you use for macro work? This is assuming controlled conditions where you can stay at (or near) base ISO.

    DX Mode

It's hard to see the relative sizes in the post above, but here is how they look when viewed on the desktop. Same crop, but the D500 shot is bigger.

    DX Mode

I suppose my definition of reach is—a larger final image. Imagine that sign on the transformer were a bird. If the distance I shot it from is the closest I can get, the bird is going to be bigger in the DX image. Also, because the pixel density is higher, there's going to be a lot more...

    DX Mode

Fine. Crop factor is related to sensor size. It gives you a different FOV. I think everyone can agree on that. Maybe the OP will chime in, but I think he was asking about reach. That's where pixel density comes in. Pixel density is one huge reason why wildlife photogs use DX cameras. The...

    D500 model marking

Anyone know why Nikon switched from the raised, silver lettering on the body (like on the D750) to the flat, painted-on letters like on the D500? It's an awesome camera, but the white lettering kind of looks cheap, IMO.

    Post Your D500 Shots

Here's one from this evening. I'm actually very impressed with the ISO performance so far. This one was ISO 2500 with only about 10 NR in LR. It seems that the noise has a pleasing quality to it, very fine and even.
