what constitutes a macro shot? DOF/Isolation/Lighting. If you have enough lighting to isolate the subject, you can shoot at F2.8 and get a shallow DOF. You can also shoot at the same f2.8 and get more FOV depending on your distance to subject. That is the challenge of macro lenses.
