Approaching Local Clothing Businesses (Product Photography)

Thanks @kevy73 but if anyone here could give me some answers on some of my other questions such as if a model is paid for, who actually pays for the model? Should the photographer or the store? Same for travelling costs

Approaching Local Clothing Businesses (Product Photography)

I have contact details of a dozen or so small, local clothing businesses in my city within the United Kingdom. I have already emailed these businesses to offer my photography services to them. I have selected these businesses because their website/online store's photos are not very...

    Professional indemnity vs Contract

Hi all, I am just wondering what's the difference between having Professional indemnity included in your photography insurance vs having terms and conditions written in a contract that's signed by the client(s)? I don't do much paid photography work but I have been quoted £120 by Glover and...

Portrait Photography Advice - Wheelchair User

I will be photographing a disabled new actor next week (in his early 20s). He wants a headshot photo for his portfolio and a few half and full body shots. He has no control over his legs so is wheelchair bound, also mobility in his neck is limited. We decided to meetup near a city river and I...

Purchased a D810 and lenses (Grey Imports)

Owning a Nikon D7100 already, I was often tempted to jump to an FX camera. When the Nikon D810 was revealed, I decided that’s the camera for me. The only problem was cost. Being in the UK, the D810 was only available in a handful of places with price tags of around £2500. I have purchased grey...

    Clothing Photography Setup?

That looks good @carguy but what about the lighting ratios? should the two light modifiers at 45 degrees be at the same power? or one brighter than the other (like 2:1) ? What do you think? I'm worried that having them at a 1:1 ratio would result in a flat image.

    Clothing Photography Setup?

Ah that's a very good tip, to shoot from waist level, I didn't know that! Nice pics @aroy I was going to use two flashed umbrellas either side at 45 degrees and one to light the wall behind but you think I should use the 3rd light in front? What lighting ratio do you think would look good for...

CF Memory Card Recommendation for Nikon D810

I've just now ordered a D810 DSLR and realised that it has a CF memory card slot. Coming from a D5100 and D7100, I am only use to SD cards. I am shocked by how expensive these CF cards are compared to SD. I am aware that the D810 also has an SD card slot. My questions are: 1) Why would Nikon...

    Clothing Photography Setup?

Hello, I've been asked to photo some clothing for a local self employed lady. The clothing will be on a mannequin, raised up against a white wall (I don't own a backdrop). I have 3 flashes with stands, 2 umbrellas and 1 brollybox. I'm not sure the best way to photograph the clothing and I don't...

I'm photographing jewellery and have a white translucent 80cm light tent/cube. It comes with 4 coloured backdrops that attach to the inside of the tent with velcro. The problem is these are made of thin nylon and don't look good. I'm looking for a suitable backdrop in white and black that I can...

Lots of Soft/Blurry Portrait Photos with 105mm @f3

Hi all, I shot a male yesterday (mainly head and shoulders) at riverside and a lot of my photos are soft. Luckily I took multiple shots of the same pose so I have some useable photos but I need to avoid this in the future. I used a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM on a D7100. I selected this lens...

Hello, I'm a practicing photographer and shot my first baby last week. I wanted to show you all for opinions and perhaps get some advise on how I can improve. All comments appreciated! The couple were very pleased, I just wished I charged more money! I undercharged (again). Sorry about the...
