    My Dream Job!

Hey Amigos! In a truly amazing turn of events, I have landed my dream job. I am the wildlife photographer for The Sanctuary at San Basilio in Baja California Sur. The Sanctuary encompasses over 25,000 acres, 5 miles of coastline, 5 beaches and some of the most incredible views anywhere...

    The perfect wildlife camera?

I'll admit it...I'm one of those never satisfied types. I have the D500 and a "pro" Nikon lens and I love the images it takes but I always want more. More frames per second, more resolution, silent shutter, even better autofocus. I'm not ashamed, people like me and probably you are what make the...

    Nikkor 200-400 vr1?

In looking into used lenses to improve the quality of my wildlife images, there are several copies of the Nikkor 200-400 vr1 available for sub 2k. I know the lens is heavy...no problem. Here's my list of possibles... Nikkor 200-400 F4 vr1 Nikkor 80-400 G (newest model) Nikkor 300 PF +...

    New model 80-400 vs Sigma 120-300 f2.8

Not much luck on the last comparison. Anyone here have an opinion or experience? I understand there is a HUGE weight difference so no need to discuss that. Also, I find myself mostly shooting at f8 when conditions permit and my primary focus is wildlife action. These two lenses are comparably...

Talk me out of switching to Sony.

Seriously considering moving to Sony. My photos are starting to sell more and customers are wanting larger prints so I was all set on the D850. I am noticing that it seems Nikon is slowly abandoning DSLRs in favor of mirrorless. Most Youtube photography channels are saying the DSLR is the...

    1 Wish for the D510!

Dear Nikon, You have made an incredible wildlife camera with the D500! I promise to buy 2 D510's if you grant me just one wish... A SILENT SHUTTER! Not some gimmicky, live view only or with a reduced frame rate but, a fully integrated silent shutter. Give us wildlife photographers the last...

    Metering and focus points

In it's current setup on my D500, metering does not follow my focus point. Meaning, if I move the focus point, it seems to still meter from the center. Can I have metering follow the focus point? If so, could you explain the process. Thanks

Is f16 the same on different lenses?

My question is: Is f16 the same on a f2.8 lens or a f5.6 lens at the same focal length? I would think that the larger elements of a f2.8 lens would allow more light through than a lens with smaller elements. Maybe a dumb question but, consider the source! Thanks

    Exposure compensation or lower ISO?

I have a rather dark pond with full bright sunlight to shoot birds. Snowy Egrets are very challenging, even shooting at -1.0ev the highlights can be blown. Because of the dark water and heavily treed banks my auto ISO is usually 250-1000 even in the full bright sun. This is typically at 600mm...
