I put my Wimberly Sidekick to the test today. I was taking action photos of eagles 1-handed with my coffee mug in the left hand. Didn't do it that way all morning, but until the coffee ran dry anyhow. :p

@Peter7100 : I took a photo with a very similar theme in 2021 on a day with freezing fog. You did everything better than I did.

It's a tough call. I put this photo on the cover of my 2023 calendar. I think 2022 was one of my best years of photography, and I did not set out with that as a goal.

I have only been planning this photo out for 3 years, but still did not get what I set out to do. I think I needed about 3x as many exposures (or more) to get the nebulae around Orion to show.

Welcome AJB! I went from a Minolta xd-11 to a D80 over 15 years ago. No matter how complex the features, the exposure triangle still is the same and the basis for good photos. Enjoy the learning.

Even if you are not willing to try, for future readers. Those types of gimbals are stupid-easy to disassemble the pivot joints, clean off the grease, and apply new grease (lighter if for use in winter). You literally just keep unscrewing until it can be pulled apart. There may be a loose washer...

I got a case of flu for Christmas. But I did buy myself a used Wimberly Sidekick gimbal-adapter last summer. It is about that time of year to drive to the dam on the Wisconsin River and say hello to the eagles again. They might admire the new Sidekick, and the Z5 I bought since last visiting.
