So much about photography is about SEEING

I pass this scene twice a day going to and from work. The light is wrong in morning but great in evening. This time the light was just right. Hazy sunset with that beautiful golden glow. Most people would just drive by this and say "cornfield, so what?" What I see is a juxtaposition of colors...

    Black eyed susans

Sometimes great scenics are as close as the side of the road. You just have to keep your eyes open! D700 and 18mm f/3.5 AIS

I got my wife a DSLR "starter kit" for our anniversary

My wife has always had a casual interest in photography. The first "starter" camera I got her was a Nikkormat FT3 (which I still have and love) with a Series E 36-72mm f/3.5 (which I got rid of about 5 years ago). Up until now she has been using the old Nikon D5700, which as point and shoots go...

    Oh how I love film

I shot this image of Caitlin with the F4E and 85mm f1.4 AIS and Tri-X rated at ASA 200. The subtle grain in the out of focus areas adds so much to this image and the tonality is terrific. This image will look fantastic printed on Oriental Seagull grade 2!

    Cottontail

I shot this one this morning as well, a young cotton tail rabbit chomping on some grass. D700, 600mm f/4 ED-IF and TC-300

    Mating Pair

Not sure what kind of birds these are, but I caught them this morning with the D700 and 600mm f/4 and TC-300 through the car window while parked by the side of the road.

It is all about the light

Taken about 15 minutes after sunrise this morning in the mist. D700 and 18mm f/3.5 AIS Nikkor

    Spooks!

I have wanted to do this kind of shoot for a long time. I shot Caitlin (the boudoir model from a few weeks ago) in an old cemetery here in town using the F4E and Tri-X film rated at ASA 200 with the 35-70mm f/3.5 AIS (a lens I am really growing to love!) on an overcast early evening. Film is...

    Dang Autocorrect!

Joe's conscience finally gets the best of him. He texts his nextdoor Neighbor "Bill, I can no longer remain silent, I have been tapping your wife for the last year, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me!" Bill is utterly devastated. He goes into the bedroom, grabs his .45 and...

    Caitlin, some mildly NSFW

I have not had much opportunity to do much portrait work either but I did manage to do a shoot on Sunday. My space in this apartment is very limited compared to home so I have had to improvise. All images were lit with my Sunpak 555's bounced into umbrellas.

    Local scenics

I have not have much time the past few months to do much photography but managed to get some shot last Friday. The corn is above my head by now and makes for some interesting abstract work. We have some pretty sudden and severe weather come up which also makes for some interesting skies...

    Tallahassee bound

I am leaving IA for 3 days and travelling back to FL for 3 days. My youngest daughter (26) is getting married tomorrow! She is the first of the "grandkids" to get married. She is marrying a good man and me and my wife get along great with our future in-laws.

    Tamara

Tam and I are coworkers here at the hospital and have become very close and dear friends, more like brother and sister. She is very photogenic but also shy and I finally convinced her to let me photograph her. I am very limited here since all of my studio stuff is at home but I went on Ebay and...

I saw Fleetwood Mac in Kansas City last night

A truly mind blowing, 2.5 hour show. I tried for 3 weeks to get a pass to shoot the show but to no avail. I was stuck with having to rely on my Blackberry. Needless to say the images were total crap, but the experience was worth it. Below is a little tribute to my all time favorite rock and roll...

My first photoshoot in more than a year and a half

Liz is brand new to modeling but very photogenic. Her complexion is nearly flawless. She takes direction extremely well and the lens loves her, as you can see from the photos. Her husband Jesse came along too and I promptly put him to work holding the flash and taking meter readings! Every one...

I bided my time for an entire lunar cycle waiting for this image

I pass by this scene each day on the way to the hospital and before daylight saving's time I saw it after dark as well. I waited for the moon to be full and shot it with the D700 and 300mm f/2.8 ED-IF AIS to exaggerate the size of the moon. I would have shot this with the Hasselblad and T-Max...

Well now I have seen it all

Well now I can say I have seen EVERYTHING. I go to leave from my apartment to go to the hospital and what do I see? A DOZEN AND A HALF WILD TURKEYS wandering our grounds. The first thought that comes to my mind is "CRAP! I am 1000 miles away from my shotgun!!!!!". The next thought is, "I wonder...

    Hey, take off Honkers, eh!

All of these were taken with the "beast", the 600mm f/4 ED-IF AIS with the TC-300 teleconverter except the last one. Everything is shot @ f/5.6 so the depth fo field is paper thin. The microprism is very crisp with just the prime lens but you have to use the ground glass with the teleconverter...
