How to lock focus on D3500?

Ok, after several experiments and tests, I have come to the conclusion on focus for (at lease) my case. It turns out Nick is right about whether D3500 provides full BBF function. It doesn't -- whenever there is nothing or nearly nothing (e.g., empty wall, empty sky even with high cloud or dark...

    Women's basketball

@Andy, So in the sports shot, you would be the one to set up exposures (iso, aperture, speed). Now for shooting moving subjects knowing shutter needs fast, yet there will be various moving speeds of different targets. Is there a rule or formula to determine how fast the shutter speed should be...

How to lock focus on D3500?

@nickt, I tried using the B button on my D3500 and it worked with using shutter button to take a picture. But not sure if I have to keep pressing the B button (to maintain focusing) when pressing the shutter?

How to lock focus on D3500?

Say I use MF or AF to focus a subject and I want to lock focus ring to that distance. Is there a simple way to lock focus from that point? (AE-L/AF-L is way too much for me to use, especially the button need to be pressed all the time. I need free fingers all the time after focus locked:) I...

Thanks to Andy's full moon reminder, I tried dozen of moon shots tonight (nearly full moon though). Only a couple looked fine and acceptable. I post two of them which are jpg unprocessed or enlarged, cropped (only scaled for attachment):

@mike, Thanks. @Andy, Great info about full moon coming! Thanks @Marilynne, Maybe "Newbie's Moon Shot questions and helps", though I still have other newbie's questions on other topics (I am starting a new discussion on D3500 battery). @Dan, Thanks for sharing your experience and helpful tips. Newbie's (blackstar) Moon Shot questions and helps

Hi, I'm back with some experimental shots. The two photos below were shot at the same scene (indoor with artificial light w/o flash, focus point: yellow flower) and one-after-another timing but in different modes and exposures. I wonder what factor(s) would cause the second photo to be messed...

Nice shots (I like the first one), Moab. Tried another round of moon shot (still in backyard). To my surprise and desperate, D3500 won't let me make a shot if object is not in focus! Tried focusing from different angles, different spots, different focal lengths, ... only got two shots...

@dawg, I didn't look in the viewfinder, just live view. But I am pretty sure now the moon problem is caused by high iso and long speed... and maybe ADL also, and it was a helicopter flying there... @hark (Cindy), Oh, I have ADL on all the time since I got my D3500.. and I checked RAW images...

Hi, Finally, made a (city) night sky shot experiment. First notice and impression: light pollution was big, something wrong with the moon (suppose to be a new moon), stars unexpectantly and surprisingly showed up in images... need your comments.

    Timer & shot number in "M" mode - D3500

Hi, Another newbie's question: Can you set and use "Timer" and "Shot number" in "M" and "Auto" mode (D3500)? I tried timer = 5", shot number = 3, and shutter speed = 3" (in "M" mode), in "M" mode I got 5" delay and only one 3" shot, no second, third shots. In "auto" mode, I didn't get 5"...

    Gimp, Darktable, and startrail plugin

Hi, I am a newbie to Nikon camera photography and this forum. I just wonder if anyone here has used Gimp, Dartable, and Startrail plugin (gimp-startrail-compositor) for your post-processing job. Hi Dawg, I know I can change exposure settings to make different shot outcomes. But this one is just showing me how powerful and useful the exposure settings can be. I did use magnifying tool to try seeing the stars, but in vain... Ok, after reading mike's post regarding upload image, I'll...
