    Supermoon!

Looney 11 Rule for exposure—where X is your ISO, use a shutter speed of 1/X of a second at ƒ/11. Here, I used my ancient Vivitar 85-205mm ƒ/3.8 lens on my D3200. Because this lens has distortion and aberrations that get worse, the wider the aperture, I stopped it all the way down to ƒ/22...

    Post your spiders

Another Pholcus phalangioides, this one a very small, probably-immature example. I don't think this particular spider could reach a span of half an inch of it spread its legs out straight. Mature examples typically easily reach a span of an inch or more.

    memory card is locked

Formatting an SD card in my computer, in NTFS format, and then inserting it in my camera, gets me this message: I think the problem has to be with the switch in the camera, that detects the position of the write-protect slider on the card.

    memory card is locked

I have verified the behavior that I expect, with my D3200, that if I slide the write-protect slider on an SD card to the lock position, and insert it in my camera, I get the exact same result, albeit not in all caps. I have to think that if you're getting this message, when you insert an SD...

Weekly Challenge Nov 02 - Nov 09: "Weather"

Some stars—including the constellation Orion—showing through some thin clouds, in the wee hours of the morning. You must never make jokes about that bright star to the lower left. It's Sirius.

Post your diners, dive bars, etc.

No pictures of my own, but many years ago, my wife and I dined at a real “dive” in Los Angeles. It was a restaurant called “Dive!”, heavily submarine-themed, and even made on the outside to resemble a submarine. Unfortunately, it shut down permanently in 1999. DIVE!

    October 2016 Assignment... "OLD"

Second Entry: As long as I can remember, my father had this tie clip, with this metal plate attached to it. Somewhere during my childhood, I got the idea that this was his name represented in some punchcard code. After my father passed away near the end of 2008, this came into my...

Recommend me settings for indoor photos please

I think it's worth pointing out that flash introduces a whole new problem—a sort of a “depth-of-field” effect on exposure rather than focus. Perhaps the use of a flash will throw enough light on the scene to get the depth-of-field that @290373m thinks he wants, with everything in sharp focus...

Weekly Challenge Sep. 28 - Oct. 05: Mechanical

My АЧС-1М aircraft clock, from the Союз Советских Социалистических Республик. I found this in a thrift store, many years ago, for just a few dollars. Subsequent research has revealed that this clock, or one very similar, is standard equipment in the Микоян МиГ-29 fighter plane. To get this...
