My latest, and quite possibly last, time-lapse video

Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit but it will be my last manual time-lapse video. If there is a next time it will be because I've figured out how to use the time-lapse app that will let you set the time intervals and allows you to ramp up and down. If you've been following my 365 thread you'll...

This shot below was taken about 15 mins before the above shot. Amazing how quickly the sky changes from one minute to the next.

Here's a shot from the same place but taken on Dec 4th. Not quite as dramatic as last night's sunset. But this spot is a great place for winter sunsets when the sun is setting so far to the south.

La Jolla Sunset - my first attempt at time lapse photography

I made this time lapse of the San Diego sunset last night (12-2-13) from La Jolla beach. Next time I'll run the time lapse until the last of the sun rays can be seen. You'll notice that it slows down as it approaches the peak of the sunset. I did this as a hedge just in case the time lapse...

Here's what the sky looked like as the sun was moving closer to the horizon. At this point I wasn't convinced we were going to have the sky fire that happened after the sun went below the horizon, so I was spending my time getting shots that didn't depend so much on the sunset like this one of...

    David_W's Images (Project 365)

Tonight was an *amazing* sunset. The panorama image was taken just after the sun went below the horizon and the sky light up a vivid orange-red color. The second image is near the peak of brightness as the orange color began to turn red. And no, I didn't juice the saturation up for these shots...

    Child

If you have a copy of PS, consider using Iris Blur to give it the feel of a shallow depth of field image. Here's a quickie example of what I'm talking about. It takes some of the sting out of unruly backgrounds. With more than the 1.5 mins I worked on this image, you could really zone in on the...

How do you store your gear?

@WhiteLight - I used to keep all my gear in a duffle bag and for the most part, it worked great. But this failed miserably when it came to traveling. I went for the 1510 so that it would fit in the overhead compartment. I also went with the padded insert because I was worried that foam was...

This afternoon's view from Torrey Pines Glider port. The sky was looking like it would make an awesome sunset but the dang marine layer crept in shortly after this photo and wiped out any chance of a great sunset. Oh well, better luck next time :(

    Question - An 80-400mm or a 70-200mm f/2.8 and a 2x teleconverter?

Right now the difference is ~$300 cheaper for option #1 (80-400mm) but option #2 does the distinct advantages of being an f/2.8 lens when the TC is removed. Right now the 70-200mm f/2.8 is selling for $2400 but occasionally goes on sale at $2100-ish and used lenses can be found in very good...
