This hawk I've photographed several times doesn't appear to be afraid of me. In the first image, the hawk was initially perched on a wire a little further away but spotted something 20-25 feet away from me. It flew down there so I took its pic from where I was standing. I was too close to fit...

    Old vs. New Threads

Sometimes even I don't understand what the forum expects when it comes to questions and old threads. If someone creates a new thread asking questions when there is a similar old thread buried on the forum, the two threads get merged together. So why shouldn't members raise an old thread to life...

What are your thoughts on this....

I had someone in a Facebook group comment that it looked like the hawk has lashes after posting the above image. When I shoot, my 2nd slot is set to jpeg. Instead of editing a RAW file, I simply cropped out more than half of the following SOOC jpeg to zoom in on the eyes from a different...

    Hark 2020

I let our dogs out this morning and saw this squirrel sitting on a neighbor's fence post. I shot a few frames in continuous - the squirrel barely opened its eyes. So I will check on it in a little while to see if it is still there.

I removed the branches from the images I posted yesterday. Looks like the hawk caught a mouse. Vertical crop from a horizontal image.

    Hark 2020

Photographing a Blue Heron has been on my bucket list for a few years. Two days ago that finally happened. :) When I posted in a local Facebook group and mentioned I'd still like to photograph a fox and a coyote, I was given some leads. They aren't the kind of wildlife you think you'd see...

What are your thoughts on this....

Actually these might not be too bad of a comparison to the photos from the first hawk images. These were also shot at f/6.7 although I bumped up the shutter speed a notch with these. Although there isn't a great deal of DoF, the hawk's head looks to be in better focus. When I edited the photos...

What are your thoughts on this....

So the refurbished TC arrived this afternoon and without performing any AF tuning, I tested it out. It isn't a fair comparison to the hawk images because I stopped down to f/8 here and used a slightly faster shutter speed. However I tried to replicate my post processing to match what I did with...

So what is the hump called that is located on its chest? Any ideas?

What are your thoughts on this....

I can finally take the Blue Heron off my bucket list of things to photograph. :) Still on my list are a fox and a coyote (yes, even in the suburbs people have reported seeing and hearing them). I haven't yet done any focus tuning since I ordered a refurbished teleconverter online. So I'll wait...

What are your thoughts on this....

I am certainly open to suggestions but doubt there are many alternatives. Unfortunately I am not able to hold a great deal of weight due to tendonitis (and previous tennis elbow surgery). And I really don't want to break the bank for the 500mm f/5.6 PF - it's expensive and too heavy for me to...

What are your thoughts on this....

I really wanted to find some type of longer lens than what I have, but the problem always comes down to weight. Currently my longest is the 300mm f/4 PF coupled with a Nikon 1.4x teleconverter (focal length of 420mm). The super zooms are out simply due to weight. And even the Nikon 500mm f/5.6...

Probably the same juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk I've been photographing lately. Cross-posted in my thread.

    Hark 2020

I haven't seen much of any wildlife lately except for this juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk. Today it was sitting in the same 1/4 mile area where I've spotted it in the past. And the lighting was stellar. :) I was only able to take a few photos before it flew off. Eventually it returned to one of the...

    World Photographic Cup

This information showed up on Facebook. Supposedly it is a world photography contest that will be held in Rome this year. 17 photographers will represent the USA. It's run by the PPA and the FEP. Has anyone ever heard of it? World Photographic Cup

Here is another one of the Red-Tailed Hawk. The icicle formation that comes after the hawk reminds me of a wispy feather. The longest icicles were at least a foot long.
