    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

That is one of the reasons I went with that crop. I always enjoy input on different takes on an image. Sometimes a suggestion works well for me. Sometimes my preference is for the image as I originally shot and edited it. It often comes down to personal preference. Getting feedback on a...

    Which 70-300mm for D5300?

Here is a listing of Nikon's lens designations: Nikon lens abreviations This type lens is amazingly good for the money, but they are not heavy duty. Many aspects of their design and manufacture were driven by saving weight and money. Several of my daughter's DX lenses sport plastic bayonets...

    Which 70-300mm for D5300?

My daughter has the 70-300 DX (non VR) and I got her the AF-P f4.5-f6.3 ED VR as an upgrade to vibration reduction. We both felt that the image quality of the upgrade was definitely better, as well as the build quality. Ken Rockwell specifically mentions that the E version has advantages over...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

I've got the highlights buried to the left in LR on both the overall, and also in the masked subject. I tried cropping it and putting the bird on the third line on the left. It looked really out of balance to me. I tried moving it somewhat to the left as much as I felt I could. I also brought...

    Suggestions on a mid-range Z zoom?

I would like to replace my 200-500 F mount with a Z mount long tele some day. I really like the Nikon Z lenses, but the 200-500 is a very good lens for the money, and I just cannot justify spending the money on a replacement right now. The Z lens is better in several areas, but just not enough...

So................ The cat saw the ibis in the yard, but covered his head so he wouldn't have to deal with it.

    Newbie

Welcome. The D500 is a very well regarded camera, especially for wildlife photography. I was avid in the hobby back in the film days. Got out, and now am back in, and loving the digital over film.

    Suggestions on a mid-range Z zoom?

Lack of VR wouldn't be a deal killer for me. The Z5 has In Body Image Stabilization. My preference would be native mount glass, but as you know, Nikon doesn't make any Z 70-300 lenses. My daughter has the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED. I tried it out on my Z5 when I first got...

    Post your macro photos here

Thanks for the link. I watched a couple of the videos. The English subtitles on one looked more like a random word generator than anything else. The others weren't great, but good enough to understand what was going on. I enjoy do it yourself projects that require some ingenuity to pull them...

Getting bees in flight, and sharp is very difficult. Heck, they move from flower to flower so quickly getting them on a flower can be a challenge.

    Advice on suitable lens

If you are wanting to do macro on a budget, consider getting a set of extension tubes.

How are you positioning your flash? Are you using any diffusion? This was taken with my Godox 685. It was mounted on camera and diffused with an AR macro flash diffuser. I can remove the flash and diffuser as a unit and position it where ever I like and then trigger with a wireless trigger. I...

    Dominique’s old stones (mostly)

Beats the heck out of many of the older British houses that are basically grey monoliths. I think it makes for an interesting image. It would make a good set for a horror or mystery movie.

    Advice on suitable lens

A couple questions that may help folks narrow things down. 1. Budget What are you looking to pay? I would recommend not skimping on the lens quality for a lens you are going to use a lot. I do understand about not having plenty of free cash to dump on whatever you want, and sometimes...

    New Nikon fan

Welcome. I have a Godox 685 and the wireless trigger. Setting everything up can be a challenge. After a while you get the hang of it, at least for the functions you use a lot. I use mine almost exclusively for macro work, so all I have to do is to keep it in manual mode, change the power...

Guess who got a new bike for Christmas

Mine had stone wheels and a handpainted mammoth on the side. That was all the rage back then, although I wanted the one with the sabertooth tiger.

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Haven't been out shooting lately. On the way home I saw some wading birds at a nearby pond. Not exciting subjects or background, but I needed the practice, so I grabbed my camera and headed back out to the pond. Decided to try and shake it up a little with something a tad more creative. Not sure...
