All great shots. Toss up between 1 and 4 for me.

Number 3 for me. I particularly like the texture of the water in the background. #5 is a close second, and I like the background better, but it is too close in color to the head of the duck. #3 gives better subject separation IMO.

No 1 - color/details of the duck really "pop" to me

No 3 I like the water background and the way he's just dipped his bill in the water but is still keeping his eye on you.

That first photo is beautiful! I love the contrasting colors and the mountain in the background is awesome!

Wood Ducks do not "quack." They make a sort of high pitched whistle which can sound soothing when they are calm and almost like a screech when they are agitated.

It was fun to watch these birds swim up to a small dam, take off and land on a sidewalk, then walk ten feet or so to start looking for crabapples on the ground.
