While sitting on my deck I saw this guy come running into our yard. I know they kill ground bees and eat a lot of grubs but they still make me nervous! But they are cute.

These were a few pictures from July that I just got around to.

This was in the spring. I'm a little slow getting around to all the processing. This Killdeer made her nest on a hiking trail about 5 feet from the roadway. I wasn't able to get back and see how the young handled being that close to the road. Hopefully they made it to adulthood. I would have loved to have got pictures of them. See if you can spot the eggs in photo #3.

Couldn't decide which way I liked this photo, b&w or color. What do you think?

I was walking on a mulched covered trail when I came upon hundreds of these mushrooms. I normally tilt to the left, which I have been trying to correct for a long time, but this time it worked for me.

I like the b&w - a bit nastalgic (trying to find the best term) and the grays are really nicely defined - timeless

I think I like it better too. The blue tones in the color version are kind of a distraction for me. I tried to make it look more nostalgic by changing the yellow tones and adding grain. I put the two together for easier viewing.

My 9 year old granddaughter is expressing an interest in birding. So I took her with me to a local park she spotted the Green Heron first thing. So I set up a tripod, because I wanted her to be able to take a picture of it and other birds. I took this first shot then she tried but could not find it in the lens before a couple of dogs started barking and scared the heron away. She did however take the rest of the pictures. So now I have a birding buddy.

Here's a juvenile Mississippi Kite, with one of its parents flying overhead chasing off a black vulture.

As someone who loves going on photography outings with my daughter, I can really appreciate how special this is.
