Hi,
I'm curious to know about suitable lenses for D3500. Currently I have AF 18-55mm kit lens and planning to buy lens for the camera. I would appreciate anyone who can suggest me the best lens for shooting videos and still images.

Thanks in advance,

I would think a lot depends on what kind of video you are going to be shooting. If you are going to shoot wildlife, for example, a telephoto would likely be in order.

For video the D3500 max's out at 1080 60 fps. I don't shoot video, but I would imagine that even the 18-55 kit lens would not be the limiting factor for 1080.

Try the 18-55 you have and see what results you get, and what it won't do for you that you need. For example, you might find that it doesn't go wide enough for your needs. In that case I would look at the 10-20 Nikkor. You would have to buy used, since they don't sell new ones. My daughter has one, and it's an excellent performer, IF you need something that wide. FWIW, I am amazed at how good the 18-55 lens is for it's price point.

Don't spend a lot of money on DSLR lenses, especially DX (crop frame) right off the bat. Everything is going mirrorless, and there are less and less DSLR cameras and lenses being manufactured and sold by all the major camera manufacturers. None of them are developing new DSLR cameras or lenses, so they are being left behind when it comes to new technology. Not to say that DSLRs can't be used to take excellent images. You can use an adapter on a mirrorless to mount a DSLR lens, but most of us that moved to mirrorless find we are motivated to everntually replace most, or all of our DSLR lenses with mirrorless lenses. For the most part, the mirrorless are better lenses for several reasons. You may also find that you want to move to full frame at some point, and if so, you will definitely want to replace your DX lenses with full frame to take advantage of the full frame sensor.

CHECK OUT YOUTUBE VIDEOS. TILL YOU HAVE THE VIDEO BASICS DOWN, DO NOT BUY ANY OTHER LENS. THE 18-55MM
IS A GOOD BASIC STARTER LENS. GET A TRIPOD IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE. NO FUN WATCHING A VIDEO THAT JUMPS AROUND.
WITHOUT A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR CAMERA ( DSLR/MIRRORLESS THEY BOTH CAN TAKE BAD (PHOTOS/VIDEO).
