do you ever wonder what makes a shot, and what falls flat, I know I do,, all the time, what is it in a
photo that grabs, sometimes subtle, sometimes like a sledge hammer.

so, for example, here is 30 some year old shot, taken with my Nikon FM,, lowly 43-86 zoom, which I actually
like,

home1 bw smaller.jpg

actually for a scan,, its not bad detail, but in this case, its the story, the old man, who
knows what sort of life he has led, living out of some low rent Hotel, with the
ironic sign of My Home, and yet he is looking out on a sunny day,,

what is going thru his mind, can you place yourself in his shoes,

laughs, ok maybe too much, but I like it.

I realize this comment is quite late, but I was struck by the photo. It's a wonderful example of photojournalism...you raise some questions but it's "telling me" a story of a guy that's probably worked hard all his life but maybe everything didn't work out in the end and now, with little to live on but maybe Social Insecurity, or a small pension he makes his home in the "My Home" residence hotel.

He appears content, looking out from his balcony to life on the street below.

I like the perception and the graininess of the image. It looks like a film shot. Did you say you had a Nikon FM? I have a
FT and a FM2.
