long and short of it,, recently I took a trip,, and wanted to mix it up a bit,, with my lens, so instead of my standard travel set of zooms,
I went to two extremes,
a 20 mm 2.8
a 300 mm 2.8
and that was it! and I really enjoyed this combo, The 300 2.8 ED produces such lovely images, the lens coatings really produces
a nice tone, such as

and also found both lens useful in aquarium, here is one from the 20mm

and now here is one with the 300 mm (yes in the aquarium)

course, you have to be across the hall to get the photo, but still useful. So, I found it very useful set of lens,, and actually
I loved the compactness of the 20mm on the D800,, and when I need the reach, the 300 is actually fairly light.
so,, I might use this type of combos a bit more often. Zooms don't always rule!
