they were not too close, and I was using the 80-400 and also the 300 2.8 macro. both useful for this
type of shot. I ended up finding the manual focus on the 300 better than on auto. light is so key
for these type of photos, and most of the time, had dull cloudy light, but I waited and waited
and then the sun started to go down, and a group flew off the distance, and for a split second,
crossed a gap in the otherwise cloudy sky,,, providing some color
