Equipment, the old old chase...

I have finally slowed down,, critical mass reached,, so, don't get all worked up anymore,, I must say,, the D800 really helped
me be satisfied with digital SLRs,, no no desire for a replacement,, thank goodness.

on lens,, I have two lens on my still to buy list..

the Nikkor 24-70 2.8

and maybe the 24 tilt and shift..

I have the older 80-200 2.8,, and I find this lens sharp,, and tough,, and frankly,, the 80-400 range is just so much nicer, that
I will trade off a shade less sharpness for the flexibility. I am not convinced that the newer 70-210 will be that much sharper
then the older 80-200..

besides,, if I want best sharpness, then 200 mm prime or 300 F4 (lovely lens)... or the old 180 2.8 sharp sharp sharp.

but lately,, with the D800,, sharpness just has not been in issue, so I don't get so crazy about needing the sharpest lens.

that is shot with my well sharp 14-24,, but,, one shot,, and for me,, there is plenty of detail in this shot,, if I wanted more
I could had done a row matrix, and really push the detail,, but laughs,, reducing for the net makes it immaterial anyhow

but it is fun when printing large.

The detail today is about right in my book,, and one can focus on composition, and other factors.

With film SLRs, it was all in the glass since the body was really just open air to the film,, so the camera had zero effect,,,

but... today's SLRs is the film! so its the camera too! so,, the lens is important, but the camera makes as much
of the decision..

of course,, almost the entire crop of Nikkors are all great..

but,,,, I am bias to a camera that meters old glass, end of story, but then I love old glass..

ahhhhh Nikkor 200 F4! the old 55 macro,, the 135,,,, oh oh,, the 20 mm 3.5, so tiny,, sharp and wide angle!!! so cool.. throw it in a cargo pants pockets.

oh,, tiny prime day..

20 mm 3.5

50 mm 2.0

100 mm 2.8

and 200 F4

4 lens,, and can thow into cargo pockets, and maybe one tiny belt pouch.. fantastic.

actually,, swap out the 50 mm 2.0 for the 55 mm macro,, sweeet

now you can do wide angle, macro, mid range, short tele, tele,, and laughs, add a teleconverter,, and even long range..

All Manual, all tiny, or if you like,, exchange for the new auto focus variety.

so,,, my favorite lens. .

mmmm
mmmm

hah don't have one.

favorite wide angle
14-24 hands down..

favorite mid
actually my 24-85 G (non VR) ED version,, its sharp, not super heavy, perfect size for the D800, The camera and the lens does not get in the way,, when not using

when I use my 14-24 or longer zooms,, its ok while shooting, but when not,, and walking around,, then a pain,, and I prefer to swap in the 24-85,, which is why
I am not so keen on the 24-70 2,8, because I would always have a hunker lens on.

when I don't want to drag weight, then the D7000 with a auto prime,, like the 50mm el cheapo 1.8,, sharp, light weight, and small,,

oops... must be a Friday night,, starting to ramble,, enjoy the weekend.
