Photography supplies cabinet

The wife has been complaining about printer paper, printer supplies, frames and other assorted gear all over the place. So in my quest to figure out what to store it in I have been looking for an answer. My first thought was a blueprint drawer but most of those were to big and the drawers were to short. My next though was a mechanics tool cart. Right size, roll around so it can be moved easily and can be kept out of sight in the new laundry room / storage room.
Looked online at HomeDepot and found a 4 drawer for $119 that filled the bill so I hopped in the truck and went down there. They had it and I went ot the counter to ask them to get me one out of wherever they stored them. On the way to the front to find someone I saw a single tool cabinet standing. Big, shinny, calling out to me. Closeout, regular $349.99 on sale for $149.99. Will be able to store all my gear in there when not in use. Happy camper I am.

Oh, that's a really cool idea. I have an old red Craftsman tool box on wheels half filled with tools that I almost never use (old standard tools) and the wife has been bugging for years about getting rid of it. Even cooler, I just threw this idea at her and provided I paint it anything other than its current cherry red she would be good with it. I'm stoked! It will be handy to keeping my glossy paper in one drawer and my various matte papers in another.
I'm glad I saw this blog. Thanks!

I just checked and My full LowePro backpack will fit in the bottom drawer. Well full except for the camera. I always leave it on the table next to my chair so I can grab it quick.

With the smaller cabinet on the top I can put all my small house type tools in there. Another bone of contention in our house.

I hear ya on having stuff scattered all over the place. I've a corner in the living room that is a complete shambles with lenses and crap everywhere. I've tried a couple different ways of dealing with it but it always ends up with a pile in the corner. Hopefully this will make a difference

We had little storage in our house from the kitchen to the bathrooms. We started remodeling the house about 2 years ago 1 room at the time. Each room we do we add storage. Put a hidden closet in the master bath. Had a strange little balcony in the den that had some built in chests that were a nightmare. Thing would get sat on top and whatever was in them was gone forever. Tore them all out and put in shelves one either side and it is all great storage now. Remodeled the kitchen and added 36 inches more cabinet space with pull out drawers in the base cabinets so it is all usable. Now building on to the back with a laundry room / storage room off the main room. The present laundry room is getting turned into a pantry with floor to ceiling cabinets.

Everything will have a place. Camera / photo stuff was the weak link. Trying to convince my wife to let me hide the shared printer in the back but she prints more than I do so haven't won that argument yet.

A really outstanding idea!

Hmmm.........maybe I can yank the toilet out of my "darkroom" and put one of them in its place. Do you think the wifey would be pissed? Perhaps I should re-phrase..........I wonder how long it would be before wifey started talking to me again after I did that without first consulting her? Well, the toilet does make a good place to sit when you are loading unexposed film onto reels!

My first darkroom was in a bathroom. Put a sink the shower. Convinced the wife to let me build on to the house and convert a spare room next to it into a studio. It had a 12 foot ceiling. The room I added to it had an office, darkroom and storage closet. It was great. ended up selling the house. I wonder what they thought of that odd setup?

My "studio" is our 23'x23' garage. It has lots of room to do full length stuff but it is still not ideal when it comes to climate control. It is a lot easier to heat in the winter than cool in the summer!

Very good idea. I'd been looking at possible solutions to that problem. Not sure on how it would match the decor, but if I stick it in the spare bedroom/office it may be an out-of-sight, out-of-mind thing.

Years ago, I had an apartment where the bathroom would look like that when I would do a marathon printing session. That did not last long. It was worth it to spend a weekend a month at my parents' house and use my father's custom made darkroom. I'd develop the film in my apartment, and let the film dry in the spare bedroom. Yes, I had a spare bedroom, just for my photo stuff. I did not have a roommate, just 4 cats who were never allowed in that room.

Since I have gone digital, my "studio" is my little, 10x12' home office. It also doubles as my fiber room for all my handspinning and knitting stuff except the wheel, which is in the living room. It sure beats all those days & nights in a darkroom.

I sort of miss the darkroom. That is also one of the problems. With a darkroom there was a place for everything. My wife is a teacher so we have 1 spare bedroom (Child in the other bedroom) She takes that for her office. So I get left out of space other than the storage shed in the back yard and I won't put my stuff in there.

Great idea, Don. You wouldn't believe what those tool cabinets go for up here. They start at around $450 and up.....and that's ON SALE!! lol

I jumped on this one when I saw it sitting in the isle for $149.99. Dirt Cheap. Been busy making labels for the handles telling me what is in each drawer. Decided I am going to put a hook on the handle to hang my LowePro bag on instead of putting it in a drawer. Will be faster to deal with.

Whelp, I've got my little Craftsman all cleaned up and drying in the sun. Thinking I'll move her in tomorrow and start the re-arranging.

Guess my little idea was better than I thought it would be. We will have to have pictures of all these full and organized when we get through.
