Being an avid outdoors man and eagle scout, I have an unconditional love for the stars. While my gear was quite limited, I made do and learned how to make what I had work. I changed the contrast a little bit as well as a whole lot of nitty gritty noise settings. Hopefully I can try to bring better shots in with the D5100 I just picked up and an new lens; just need a clear night.

Feel free to rip the photo apart as far as
critiquing goes. It is only the internet after all. Also I'm more then willing to explain my settings if anyone questions my logic in using them.

Enjoy

Really nice shot. The trees are adding quite a bit of dimension and perspective. They are well balanced with the stars. I know it takes a bit of post processing to get the right colors on foreground objects when one takes long exposures.

Well done.

Looking good! I especially like how the sky seems to look like you can see a galaxy (even if it is just a cloud).

Very nice image. I agree with Marcel about the trees adding perspective. And thanks for providing the EXIF!

Where are you located? I know the Northern sky pretty well but I have to admit I'm having a difficult time finding a reference object in the image.

N Addy; If you want, pm me for many more unprocessed photo's that range over a aprox 2.5 hour time period. Maybe some of the stars you are use to coordinating with are below the horizon, or were removed with the de-noise algorithm.

Mr. Smith, I started another thread completely devoted to star photography under that nightime photo section. Feel free to post any questions there.

cnyram, It's located southern central Ohio.

Mt. Sterling, OH 43143

I specifically took my shots here
39.619046,-83.221489 facing 4 or 5 oclock with the map oriented North.

Hope this answers all the questions.
