I took this shot while in Fontainebleau, France a couple weeks ago. To my surprise, while looking at photo books in the gift shop, I found a very similar photo. Lighting was definitely on my side though, and it was hard to not take this pic. Question is, does it deserve a better crop without the columns on the sides?

I've never been to the Fountainebleau (not counting the one in Miami) and after looking at your photograph, it makes me wonder who influenced who. Here's the Vatican Museum and a typical corridor ceiling.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I like the columns, but yes, they do look better with a bit of perspective correction. Pete, I like the crop too, thanks. ;)

Ted, that's funny, I have a very similar pic from two years ago:

That style (Baroque) has been copied for hundreds of years. From what I gather, the museum is about 100 years older though. I visited Versailles too, and you see the same thing repeated:

I liked the cropped version personally. The way the photo has been set up is awesome. Light was definitely on your side. I love the way the lines in the photo draw you towards the Globe.

The ceiling art is amazing. Even in older American buildings. People that fail to look up are missing a great deal of workmanship and beauty. And what about us both standing in the same spot, taking the same photo? That says something for the awe factor of the museum.

If I had only known then (at the Vatican) what I know now.......

Me personally I would make a couple of adjustments in the raw file to tone the light down just a hair in the window but I would not crop the image at all. The columns lend to the feeling of depth in the image, and I like that. I would straighten the image a little but thats it. I really like the image a lot.
