Well, my weakness got the best of me. I jumped on the D750 w/ the 24-120 f4,the Nikon battery grip, extra battery, memory card and some other small stuffs from Best Buy. I am in the process though of fussing with them because they advertised FREE 2-Day shipping and charged my almost $23 for shipping. We'll see how it all comes out in the end. I am supposed to get it on Friday. I can't wait! Well I guess I can because I don't have a choice. Ha!

An update on the shipping cost. It will be refunded to me about 5 days after the camera ships. Seems like a good deal to me. Ha!

This order was on the 'slow boat from China'
They call this the Selens Honeycomb Grid with filters.
Basically a heavy rubber band with magnets on each side goes on the flash. Very snug on a X60 (Canadian for Godox V860), it is a bigger flash, much larger than an SB700. But it is on there. Magnetic filter holder goes on first and then if desired a grid fits on top. There are other accessories.

Ordered Jan 29th - picked it up today, May 10th ... more than three months in transit.

But at $20 instead of $55 for a Rogue or $120 for Magmod I'll give it a go and see if it works for me.
I bought two at that price. Bonus feature, the grids are stackable to give even more narrow beam. And I suppose one could then wrap with a snoot and see if that give even more narrow beam if one really wanted to play with the light.

A grid for speed lights is really a useful tool. I made one from black plastic drinking straws bundled but it is pretty crude mounting with Velco. I made two, with different length straw lengths, one 1 inch and the other 2 inches. The 2 inch has a very tight been with very little light spill.
$20 seems reasonable for the mag mount holder, grid and gels. I will have to order a couple. I have 6 speed lights, all with RF flash controllers so it is possible to create some very studio-like remote sessions.

Yes, I did the "beer cozy straw grid" DIY first, made up a few. Works but they ain't pretty. I'm not crafty enough to get to pretty, functional yes, but not pretty. My straws are longer so will keep them as they do shape the light differently. Mine are also do not have coloured light gels.

After 18 months of waiting, a pre-owned Nikon 16mm fisheye showed up at a camera store. One thing I will need to remember is to NOT click on the lens profile in Camera RAW. When I did that, it straightened out the lines. I'm gonna have lots of fun with this! ;)

This store employee said the lens was traded in by a Canon rep. :biggrin-new:

Got me a Gnarly Bag - top loader - alas it is a tight fit for both my D610 or D7100....
Fits but cannot easily get my hand around the grip to pull out.
Intent was to pack a camera mounted with wide lens on hip while hiking with my long lens on a strap (or monopod).
....

But I hear the D750 is slightly smaller than the D610

_____________D610 ______________ D750

Dimensions141 x 113 x 82 mm (5.6 x 4.4 x 3.2 in)140.5 x 113 x 78mm (5.6 x 4.5 x 3.1 in)

I'm thinking that extra half of one mm makes it 'smaller' and it is a whole four mm narrower. I think this justifies buying the D750 as I'd not want this $10 bargain bag go to waste. :playful:

I have a similar bag by ApeCase. I strap it to the handlebars of my bicycle :)

DSC_6004+Two Books -0001_1.jpg

Time for a cuppa and sit down with a good book.
Bought me two nice books on photography

National Geographics Complete Photography ... who wants the incomplete one eh?
Lots of eye candy and while the tech is a little dated (printed 2011) even though the principals have not changed much. And the "Art of Photography" is why I'm reading this. Lots of photographers' stories.

"TWO" - is an interesting book about photographs with two subjects - a very artsy book, no technical side to this exploration of capturing two in relationship to each other.

.... now to get that cup brewed and sit back in the big chair.

With the age of digital technology and e-books, it's nice to see others still appreciate a real book.

I bought one of these cheap shooting tables off ebay to try out with my product photography.
s-l500 (1).jpg

First test shot, still needs some work with the lighting to get things looking better (used 2 speedlights, one in a 24" softbox on the left, and one underneath )
But happy enough with initial results to keep trying.

The table looks interesting. I've seen the boxes (not sure what they are called) that are entirely white inside but think it would be difficult to light when the product is enclosed. This looks like a much more usable display!

Purchased a think tank citywalker 10 off of B&H the other day, they were on sale for $49, so tuff to beat. Should get it tomorrow.

CityWalker-10-Blue-1.jpg

Also submitted a warranty claim on an older Caselogic backpack I had where one of the zippers broke. Wasn't aware they had a 25 yr warranty. They just called and said since they don't make that exact one, that I could just pick one I want and they'd ship it to me. So they are now sending me the bigger SLRC 206. Can't beat that customer service!!

Purchased a Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 DG

This does not have VR, but it came with a monopod, 1.4x Sigma Teleconverter, lens hood, UV filter and a lens case. Can't beat that with a stick. If I decide to upgrade, and I probably will eventually, my brother will take it. It seems to function well. When mounted, it does not fit snuggly. You can rotate the camera back and forth a little. This does not seem to affect the focus.
I have a few days to decide if I want to keep it or let my brother buy it. I think I would prefer a VR lens, but this will give me a chance to try out using a large lens with very little invested compared to other lenses.

Great price for a great bag. My Citywalker 20 is my go-to bag, holds my 70-200 and much more :)
