Sigma Rocks. That is all...

So, what is the secret to finding the serial number on an ART lens?

Great to hear that the customer service has been off the charts positive with Sigma. That's been my only hesitation with Sigma. I've been fortunate to not need to deal with either Nikon or Tamron service yet, but this no fee fine-tuning and shipping sounds very impressive!

I've been saying it for a while - they're absolutely the best. My bag is about 40% Sigma glass.

I read today that their prices may be going up 7-20% in the new year (varies by glass, I haven't seen specifics), so there's no time like the present. Would seriously love the 12-24mm f4 but I just can't swing that at the moment - cost or justification-wise.

If there's one beef about some of the Art series zooms it's the weight. The 12-24mm is 2.5 lbs, that's 3/4 the weight of the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8!!

I have the EX Sigma 50-150 f2.8 APO DC HSM OS which is a DX lens.
Multiply it by 1.5 to come to the (almost) equivalent of the well renowned and respected 70-200 and you have the reason why they made this DX lens in the first place.
What I will never understand is why they stopped making it.
I bought it initially for portraits but find that it is on my camera 90% of the time.
It is incredibly sharp and fast.
Great to hear that you get such good service over there. Not sure we would get the same here as they are serviced by agents but might be worth a call.

In my case a magnifying glass really good light... Seriously.

The serial number is so minute, and so faintly engraved on the barrel, I needed guidance while searching for it.

The only lens I now regret selling... Like you, I can't figure out why they discontinued it. One of the best lenses I've ever owned.

I've sold off my 50mm Nikon 1.8s (had both a D and G model) for the purpose of getting a 1.4, and now I'm on the fence about staying Nikon ~$500 or going with the ART for $900. It's less of a concern when looking at the 85mm, the ART comes in cheaper at $1200 instead of $1500. If Sigma keeps up the quality and service, it makes the decisions tougher and easier at the same time.

Finally getting some play time with my 50mm f/1.4 after getting it back from the Sigma "mothership". Now that I have I am doubly... triply(!!) glad I had the adjustment done! I've always loved this lens, but at the same time I wasn't feeling confident I was getting everything from that I should have been.

Not. Any. More.

I was never getting shots like this before having the AF fine tuned. Now, after a couple of hours of shooting, it's already feeling routine:

And just for the sake of comparison, here's the same shot (effectively) taken at f/2 vs f/1.4 (above):
