It sounds like it should do the same type of things mine does, but yours is way more reasonably priced! Awesome! I hope it work great for you guys my friends!
If I didn't already have this tripod and the aluminium version of it, I would be looking at yours or the manfrotto version of it!lol I found my tripod to be very versatile, and yours should be too!:)

Here is mine.

Series 2 Carbon 6X Explorer Tripod - 4 Section G-Lock GT2541EX - Explorer Tripods | Gitzo

@cwgrizz and @Roy1961 you inspired me. Went out and bought the vanguard tripod from B&H. Will hold 15 lbs and should handle the stuff I do. Thanks Walt and Roy.

I pulled the trigger on an ICE ND1000 filter, two Goja stepup rings for the filter to fit my lenses, and a Polaroid Shutter Release Timer Remote Control. Coming from Amazon next week (maybe).

I have one of the ICE ND filters (10-stop I believe) as well as one by a big name company. I haven't used either yet but want to do a comparison of both. The ICE filter has many positive reviews, and since it is much less in cost, it is a good bargain. You picked some great accessories to keep in your bag! ;)

Love to see the comparison once you have it.

I'm still shopping for my ND filters. Thinking of the ICE 10 stopper. Or for a few (as in $50) more I could get a Hoya or Tiffen.

File this under what happens after 60 - I forgot I had one. It came in a set of three (UV, polarizing + ND) Hoya filters but never tried it out. Bought it at a local on-line garage sale months ago, but it is not a convenient size (58mm) but I've since found a 58-52 step down ring and should really try it, have a few older lenses at 52mm and my DX 70-300 zoom is 58mm. What I really need is to spend the time figuring out what I can do with these ND's once I do have them.

But still toying with the idea of going with a square filter system, maybe Cokin or Formatt Hitech. Would cost a little more to start but looks like more creative options.

They are good for a couple different uses--especially the 10-stop ones. If you are photographing moving water (waterfalls, water moving over stones or rocks in the water, fountains, the tide coming in, etc) it will turn choppy water images into smooth, silky water images. Or if it is the middle of the day and you want to photograph a highway and make it appear deserted, it will work like the following video shows. And it will work in a similar fashion for people walking on a city street as long as they stay moving.

Good news (I think). The tripod and QR plate have been packed and assigned a Tracking number. If I had not received this info, I would have really been upset because they were advertising the tripod "In Stock- Ready to ship" on their web site. Ha! Now I just have to wait for the posting of an estimated delivery date. I chose the free shipping (SLOW) mode. Ha!

After my last drone bit the dust I thought I had sworn off of them for good. Could not stay away so I bought a new one. The DJI Phantom 3.

It has some really great features like "Follow me" and "Point of Interest" Played with the POI today but ran out of battery power before I got a video using it.

I am using the square filters by Nisi brand. So far it is working good on my 14-24mm wide angle lens, though it is not a real handy filter as the screw -on filters can be.

But my ultra wide angle lens can't use the screw-on filters. So I would recommend thinking about it a bit before buying the square filters. Here is my setup.

You and Danno should be happy with this. Great deal. Like Roy, I have the 263. Same thing, just 3 sections and a little shorter max height. SBH-100 head works well. I even used it with my 150-600mm. I changed mine out for the sbh-250. Not for any problems, just because I caught a sale and got the SBH-250 for $70. I have the sbh-50 (same plate) on my monopod. The sbh-100 will go on some lightweight tripod that I do not have yet. Enjoy!

I just ordered a tripod and ball head with extra QR plate. Adorama has a Memorial Day Sale going on. It was in my price range and looks like it will do what I want for now. Time will tell. Ha!

Thanks for the idea.

The square vs round debate rages on.

But I suppose this discussion is out of place in the "latest purchase" section - least it become the "thinking about my next" - purchase section.

Now my camera has a lens ($80 from ebay), a grip ($25 from ebay original Nikon brand, not knockoffs). If the grip is screw in too tight to the camera, the camera will turn on by itself, and won't show the preview after you zap the picture.

First, yard sale find. Telescope. Not sure of the model or size. Nice and clear optics. They wanted 50.00, I talked them down to 35.00 All I know is that is says "Galileo" And it has a 5" tube.

Used it last night. The moon, what there was of it. Came in huge and sharp! Very happy!

Then, I ordered these things to attach my camera to it. They won't be here in time for our vacation to Maine, bummer, but I'll be ready for our vacation in November.

Just checked Adorama web site and it looks like the price on the tripod is back up to full retail of $209 and is listed as "In Stock Online" whatever that means. If I get it, I will be pleased with the $80 savings. Ha! I am in the same boat as you Danno for quality or how well it will work. I also only had a cheap and old tripod that just was not quite cutting it. I have no clue how well this one will work out, but the price and specs seemed to be good. I also liked the center column being able to pivot off the side to the various angles.

Well Walt, I am not sure if you have gotten yours yet but I have had mine a few days and I love it. I was very pleasantly surprised by how well it is made, and it handles the 200/500 f/ 5.6 Nikon lens very well. It is a big step up from what I am used too.

DSC_7105+new stuff-0002.jpg

My B&H haul. Came in three boxes - big box for the APE case - makes sense.
Medium box for almost all the rest of the stuff.
And in another medium sized box, the one 52mm filter. Could have easily fit into the other mixed box.

The Kenko 1.4 Teleconverter was the main item, and that APE Case for the 200-500mm

Posted a bit of review of the bag in the 200-500 thread here if interested. http://nikonites.com/telephoto/34300-nikon-200-500-5-6-vr-lens-post-your-photos-21.html#post561158

Posted photos showing Kenko + 200-500mm 5.6e lens here: http://nikonites.com/telephoto/34300-nikon-200-500-5-6-vr-lens-post-your-photos-21.html#post561157

Also picked up a new SD Card (95mb/second - zoom zoom).
And a couple of small lens cases (one for the Kenko T/C)
A step up ring and a UV protector lens.
And a Desmond clamp for my mini-pod. Desmond DDSC-60 Circular Disc Clamp DDSC-60 B&H Photo Video

Love sending presents to me.

FYI about B&H's Free Shipping to Canada: Shipping was "free" if I paid their customs & tax fee - which on this order was $26.52 US$. There is no duty but 5% sales taxes would have applied ($11 of that $26) ... the rest must be the fee for paying that tax. What-ever it is cheaper that postage - by far. It also cleared customs pretty quickly - bought on May 29th - delivered on June 7 = 10 days. I've waited longer for purchases made in Canada.

First time ordering from B&H - already have stuff on my "wish list" at B&H.
Looking at some drop in filters, Cokin Pro Z or Formatt Hitech. decisions to be made = money to be spent.

For all who have been holding your breath waiting for the report that the tripod made it. Well you can breathe now, because it arrived today. I was surprised because I probably didn't read the fine print. I expected one QR plate with the tripod/ballhead combination, so I had ordered an extra QR plate so I would have one for each camera. To my surprise, I received two QR plates with the tripod and one QR plate a few days ago. Now I have three. I guess that only means that I have to buy another camera. Ha! With the unpacking and first inspection, I am impressed with what appears to be good quality and a solid system. So far I am a happy camper.

Now to wait for tomorrows package of ND filter, step up rings and shutter release.

You know long lenses with tripod collars also take QR plates - maybe your extra QR plates was meant for a nice new big long lens.... :)
