I was lining up a shot of these two ducklings peacefully sleeping and this thug (not one of the parents) ran over and shoved them in the water at the exact moment I pressed the shutter button.

These guys are very common here especially at this time of year when the foliage is gone and they are more easily seen. They are also very tolerant of humans allowing open approach to within 20 to 30 feet. This shot was taken from about 25 feet, the nest box is directly across from my front door at 32 yards distance. The barred Owl is sitting on top of a power pole 15 yards from that same door.

I believe the province of BC is about 4 times larger than England and has a population around 1/3rd that of Greater London. Consequently, human density is low and the wildlife, being less pressured and disturbed, are more tolerant.
