I don't know. This was the first time I had seen one. According to Wiki, it should be very tasty. I've been told that young ones are cooked and ripe ones eaten fresh. Some get to be 80 pounds or more.

They occasionally show up at our farmer's market on the Asian produce stand. Never tried one. We were given a small plant for the hort department, but it didn't make it through the heat wave/Santa Ana winds.

Yes, Jack fruit grow all over South East Asia. I have one tree in front of my house and two in the back lane. Here are the images of young fruit. Due to the trees being in public land, they rarely grow large enough, as passerby pick them young for vegetables.
