The downside of getting up during this magical hour is too many decent photos.

Must... turn... PC... off and go shopping...

I really like the concept of this picture.

Thank you. There's still something that irks me but I can't put my finger on it.

I'm slowly realizing macro works much better when you simplify. A lot of my pictures have too much in them. It can become distracting or confusing but above all, very limiting when composing. I'm gonna try more "less is more" from now on.

Agree there is something not spot on but its a concept thats worth working on.

I tried something different. Maybe it's our affinity with the L-R direction. I flipped it and used a gradient to darken it some towards the edges.

I'm still not sure. Maybe I'll reshoot it during the next trying some different parameters.

I think I know what irks me; All in all it's a lousy shot since it isn't sharp. The velvet texture of the flower kinda distracts from the fact the center has no velvet texture at all yet in this image, it shares that fuzziness. That's not velvet, it's simply not sharp.

Gotto pay more attention to that next time.

At this level of magnification you are entering the realm where focus stacking might be necessary if you want it to be sharp in the centre and show the velvety petals, or at least go for a much smaller Aperture say f/16 to give a bigger DOF.

You're right, this shot required a lot more DOF.

It was one of those intuitive shots I took without giving it much thought. When light is bad, my aperture usually tends to pay the price since I require a decent shutter speed to avoid motion blur for these shots. I should have simply upped the ISO some.
