Wow, love the blues on the roots. Is that HDR? It seems a little punchy for my tastes, maybe ease off the contrast a bit. What's going on with the cyan in the top left corner? Is that a result of post-processing? Just curious. I think it's obvious we are to focus on the roots, right?

The only editing part I do is use the basic editing function that's there in Picasso. I am still new to all these. The cyan you see is the distant hills which has appeared bluish there.
Please feel free to use the pic and have it edited the way you like.

Ok....first of all, the image itself lacks quite a bit. The tree and roots are interesting, but the surrounding elements are way too busy and distracting, both in quantity and colors. The blue highlights are not flattering and the overall image seems a touch dark/underexposed. This is the kind of shot, that can sort of be helped with post processing. Below is my take on a color version (Hope you don't mind) But I wanted to show you how you can take a somewhat boring photo, and bring life to it in post and learn what a valuable tool it can be. I cant help the composition, but the point is, your going to have good photos someday, that could be GREAT if you process them correctly. If not, you lose out.

I did this in Adobe Lightroom 3.5
I warmed it up some, took out the blue highlights, de-saturated the greens and reds, saturated the oranges a bit, some sharpening and noise removal, brightened it up a tad, a touch of fill light and some very subtle post crop vignetting.
