Still don't have a walkaround lens.

Adorama now has a used 18-140 in E condition for $289.00, or they have a used 18-200 VRII for 399.00.

60 mm is not that much when you're going from 140, then again, if I get the 18-140 I'm gonna always think I should have gotten the other one.
Quite the dilema.

It is here. Got it an hour ago. Looks brand new , no scratches, no dings not anything.
One thing I can say for Adorama is that I never have to worry about the condition of the used product from "E" on upwards. (Never bought anything below "E" condition so I can't say anything about that)
Anything I have ever gotten from them always exceeded expectations.

So far I'm really liking this lens as far as IQ goes, for a 300 dollar ultra zoom lens. Looks like after agonizing for months I made the right call.
Thanks to everyone who helped me make up my mind, especially MR. Fish.:eagerness:

Fun, good luck with it!

Appreciate the comments re Adorama, haven't dealt with them in many years, migrated to KEH who I feel the same way about. Never a deal gone bad.

I have been walking around with the D 35-70 F2.8 (wide is not really my thing my field of view gravitates to about 70mm) It is a heavy walk around tho on the D300...

Coming home from Atlanta the other day, I saw a billboard for KEH camera on the side of the highway. They have a store in Smyrna Georgia, which is about an hour and a half from my house. I may have to drive down there to take a look.
Regular brick and mortar camera stores are hard to find anymore.

Blacktop that would be a must visit for me!

(Of course a dangerous visit in regards to the wallet)

Lemme know how their D700's look, a purchase is imminent as soon as clear my current Sony /Maxxum kit....I also wish I had seen your 55-200 VR before I spent more than you are asking for my non VR kit 55-200! :(

If I go down there I will take some pics and post them here. Problem is they are not open on weekends, but I have a week off coming up so I'll run down there. Maybe they will buy some of my stuff I have for sale.

None of my business, but do you think a D700 would be that much of an upgrade from a D300?

Uh oh, I foresee a lightening of the wallet for you.....:topsy_turvy:

(of course they will take your gear so you can spend money and buy more gear and they can resell your pristine gear for more money than they gave you)

That is what they do!

That will be my kit, I will use both equally - I roll with 2 rigs usually....same camera one has a FF sensor. Exactly what I want, learn one camera menus have a crop and a full frame over the shoulder. The ultimate plan is D300/D700 with one VG along with the Nikkor F4 trilogy of zooms and keep the current 2 FX lenses. I would probably add a Nikon flashgun too the responds to remote commander.

Extreme simplification from my current kit of more than a dozen lenses and 3 cameras. Two cameras and 5 lenses to conquer the world!!!

Perfection.

I expect the images will be better but the D300 is darn good for sure, I have shot maybe 1000 frames and the keeper rate is mind boggling. It is downright magical with the 50 1.4 AF D. What a piece of kit the D300 is!
