We get them every year, and even had one nest in the yard about 15 years ago, but they are very infrequent visitors. So infrequent that hearing them early in the morning when the windows are open has made my wife jump out of bed to run downstairs and try and see them.

Here's a pair of them that flew through a week ago - different birds. We love our recycled "bird baths", and the irony of the bird photos they provide.

Nice shot Don. I have seen a couple while walking in the woods this year but never got off a really good shot.Never had one visit our backyard.

So I've got to ask just what it is you recycled to use as a birdbath. :confused: Locally there is a nice garden center with some beautifully shaped birdbaths. I bought two different ones plus had an unused pedestal for a third. I found a plastic saucer that was made to sit underneath a pot and wound up using it as a birdbath. It's just the right size and depth.

Ummm, frying pans. :) The handle came off of that one, but there are others where it's still attached.
